What you can try yourself

  • Drink plenty – small sips, regularly (tea, clear broth, diluted juices)
  • Several small meals (5–8/day); avoid long periods with an empty stomach
  • Salty snacks; ginger may help
  • Avoid strong smells, greasy or spicy foods
  • Rest, reduce stress; consider distraction after eating
Iron supplements

If you are taking an iron supplement and feel significantly worse because of it, please let us know – sometimes an adjustment helps.

Warning signs (please contact us immediately)

Warning signs:
  • You cannot keep any fluids down for over 24 hours
  • Very dark urine / very little urine, dizziness/fainting
  • Blood in vomit, severe abdominal pain, fever
  • Significant weight loss
In that case, IV fluids, lab tests or medication may be necessary.
